Uncle Jed's Barbershop

Set in the 1920s, this is the story of Sarah Jean's favorite relative, Uncle Jed. Uncle Jed and Sarah Jean live in the segregated South, where Uncle Jed is the only African-American barber. He travels to the homes of family and friends to cut their hair, but dreams of opening up his own shop and has been slowly saving his money for the big event. When Sarah Jean needs an emergency operation, Uncle Jed donates all his money to save her life. Again, he begins the slow process of adding to his bank account, only to see his bank foreclose during the Depression. Will Uncle Jed's dream ever come true? Illustrated with oil paintings.
